It’s always a good idea to set goals for yourself whenever you decide to participate in an exercise program. By following this essential principles of fitness training you are providing yourself with a map or blueprint and making it 10x easier on yourself to achieve your goals.

Like pretty much anything else in life, you have a much better chance of achieving whatever it is you want to accomplish if you have a detailed map or guide that will help guide you on your path. The principles of fitness training are there for a reason…

Setting a goal is very easy. Just ask yourself what you want to get out of all this exercise you’re going to be doing. Maybe you want to lose 10 lbs., drop a couple of dress sizes or add a couple of inches to your arms…whatever the case. The principles of fitness training dictate that you have to have goals if you want your time exercising to be productive.

Goals will help get you there quicker.

Here are 3 quick tips I recommend when considering your goals:

  1. Make sure they’re realistic. If working out 5 x a week isn’t realistic for you then don’t make it a goal. You want to set yourself up for success here, not failure.
  2. Have some short-term goals. Long-term goals (losing 10 lbs.) are great but short-term goals (working out 4 x this week) will keep you focused from day-to-day.
  3. Write them down. Writing down your goals just make them more powerful. It makes them real (at least for me).

Guys don’t try to reinvent the wheel… follow the principles of fitness training to reach and achieve your goals much quicker and avoid the hassles of making mistakes along your journey to physical fitness.
