In health and fitness news today I discovered that the daily recommended allowance for fiber has been increased from 25 grams to 38 grams. Although most folks see fiber as a supplement for people in retirement villages, the truth is that fiber can do a lot more for you then you ever thought possible as I quickly discovered while reviewing some information for this health and fitness news post.
Turns out that fiber deficiency can lead to several different cancers as well as increase your risk of diabetes as well as heart disease! According to Mens Health you could increase your risk for these diseases by as much as 20-40%!

Now personally for me there’s not really much more I need to hear to start increasing my intake of this valuable nutrient but the fact that fiber can also help you lose weight just made my decision all that much easier.

Fiber slows the rate at which food leaves your stomach which leaves you feeling fuller longer and should lead to your consuming fewer calories by the end of the day. Mix in some exercise and BOOYAA you’re losing weight without pretty much doing anything. Who knew that fiber could do all of this?

And of course we haven’t even talked about all that fiber does for your regularity and constipation and I don’t think we need to go into that in too much detail here.

So how are you supposed to consume 38 grams of fiber per day? Personally I don”t even try. I’m too busy to prepare all of my meals down to the fiber and since this is the case I just take a supplement to ensure that I’m taking in enough of this ultra important nutrient.
