Cut That Hour Long Cardio Marathon in Half For More Effective Weight Loss

by FAHT

According to Fitness Rx for Men (Volume 5 Number 4, July 2007) those hour-long cardio sessions you’ve been forcing yourself through may not be as effective for weight loss and at burning fat as you think they are…

According to Fitness Rx, Japanese scientists have discovered that two 30 minute moderate-intensity workouts separated by a 20 minute break are more effective then torturing yourself with 60 consecutive minutes of cardio for weight loss.

You may be asking yourself what you’re supposed to do in those 20 minutes between your two cardio workouts and here’s the answer.

First of all, I take this workout outside and I combine with it a bit of interval training. My wife and I like to be outside and we like to go hiking on weekends and such so here’s what I do…

  • Head out for a hike
  • Jog for a moderate pace for 30 minutes
  • Walk for 20 minutes (I replace walking for taking a break to take advantage of interval training benefits as well which are great for weight loss)
  • finish up the workout by jogging (again at a moderate pace) for 30 minutes
  • Have a picnic and score major brownie points with the wife!

That’s it.

Whenever possible I try to mix in cardio workouts for weight loss with leisurely activities such as hiking to make it a little more fun and enjoyable.
